On New Year's Eve ten years ago I reflect on the first organized "happening" using the metaphorical model of soup as in primordial soup or even stone soup. Today's reflection is best read side-by-side with the original. Use shift-hover to align old and new.
Imagine paragraphs as a beautiful nugget of thought that could fit into stories we can't yet imagine.
Imagine our own creative energy mashing-up with the generously licensed creative product of others. See When Replicators Unite
This is the "Wiki Nature" we aspire for what is often called a garden rather than a stream. See A Year in the Garden
I compare the protections provided by this wiki's unusual ownership rules to the cell wall that so inspired Alan Kay to wrap methods in an object. I mix this notion with the air-breathing fish discovered ten years earlier. See Tiktaalik Missing Link
This soup contains a handful of exactly these kinds of cells. Each contains a smattering of content, some original, some forked through the walls, and some blown in on the wind.
Can we protect fragile ideas unfinished? We saw that happen in the c2.wiki as agile emerged. But that was a more innocent time.
Returning to the "stone soup" metaphor, I thank the happening participants for giving this new wiki their serious attention.
